Common Animal-Derived Ingredients That Have Vegan Replacements
Several animal-derived ingredients used in cosmetics and other products have plant-based or synthetic alternatives with the same or similar names. Here are some key examples

  • Squalene/Squalane:

     Traditionally derived from shark liver oil, but now commonly sourced from plant oils like olive oil or synthesized.

  • Glycerin

     Can be derived from animal fats, but vegetable glycerin from coconut or soy oil is a common alternative.

  • Collagen

     Traditionally sourced from animal tissues, but plant-based alternatives like soy protein and synthetic vegan collagen are now available.

  • Stearic acid
